Our History

The Gallery was founded in 1978 by Francis Kyle and for 36 years occupied 9 Maddox Street in the heart of Mayfair, between Regent Street and Bond Street, until September 2014. Francis Kyle Gallery represented some 40 contemporary artists from Britain, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United States.  On the principal three floors of its building the Gallery presented some 10 individual exhibitions annually, with a signature theme exhibition, usually commissioned from around twenty or so artists, every eighteen months. The Gallery also presented from time to time solo exhibitions of many of its artists in public and private venues across the world as well as participating with its stable in international art fairs.

On the Gallery's upper floors in Maddox Street were viewing rooms for works by the Gallery’s artists, for the most part in oils or acrylic on canvas, mixed media, watercolour, pastel and drawings with occasional sculptures and ceramics. Alongside this programme, Francis Kyle Gallery also published limited editions of etchings and lithographs and regularly devoted solo exhibitions to well-established artists working in these media from France, Germany and the United States. A selection of the last of the Gallery's exhibitions from some 400 over the years can be seen here.

After Francis Kyle Gallery closed its doors in Maddox Street in Autumn 2014, Francis Kyle formed an entirely new enterprise, Francis Kyle Collection, to provide advice to emerging artists as well as, on occasion, sourcing artworks for private clients.
